This morning I read a book by an “unknown” author. One passage struck me deeply: “Honesty may not always make life easy, but it will always make life noble. An honest person may lose a momentary opportunity, but they will never lose their honor before God and humanity.”
How true this is. In our worldly life, not everything of high value appears profitable at first glance. There are times when honesty may require us to let go of short-term gain, to refuse shortcuts, even to accept difficult consequences.
Honesty is like light. Its beam doesn’t instantly turn darkness into day, but it never stops showing us the way. Dishonesty can bring momentary comfort, yet it always leaves behind lingering unease. Honesty can taste bitter at first, but it brings a peace that money cannot buy. An honest heart always has room to breathe, because it isn’t burdened by pretense.
Honesty is more than good character, it is a path to true success and blessing. God loves those who are truthful and sincere. Human trust, too, grows from honesty that is consistently upheld. Wealth, position, or praise may come and go. But a good name born of honesty often outlives the person who carried it. Honor is the fruit harvested by those who dare to speak the truth, even when it brings them no personal advantage.
In reality, it isn’t honesty that strains our relationships with others. More often, it’s our discomfort with truth, our fear of the consequences. Yet being honest doesn’t mean abandoning ethics or manners. It means conveying the truth with a pure heart and gentle words. Honesty wrapped in good character builds trust. But truth and honesty without wisdom, manners, and ethics only become wounds for others.

I writing this as I reflect once more on the Egypt vs Argentina match which was alleged to be full of corruption and dishonesty. Egypt, “maalesh” you won!
